The Golden Jubilee of Ordination of Fr. Eric Rodrigues, C.Ss.R
The Golden Jubilee of Ordination of Fr. Eric Rodrigues, C.Ss.R was celebrated on 16th August 18, 2013 at Mt. St. Alphonsus in Bangalore. A good number of Redemptorists were present for the grand celebration. The celebration began with the Solemn Eucharist in which a meaningful homily on priesthood was preached by Fr. Xavier Sanjivi, C.Ss.R. Then Fr. Eric was felicitated by Frs. Francis pinto, Juventius Andrade (the Consultor General and a Silver Jubilarian), Ivel Mendonha and Fr. Arulanandam (the Provincial of Bangalore Province).
Fr. Eric was born in Bombay on the 12th of February, 1939 to Joekim and Bertha Rodrigues. He joined the Redemptorists by entering the novitiate at St. Gerard’s on the 15th of May, 1955 and made his first profession on the 2nd of August, 1956. He was finally professed on the 2nd of August, 1960. He was ordained a priest on 21st of September, 1963. As part of his priestly ministry he held many significant appointments like Minister, Professor, the Parish Priest of Fatima Shrine, Calcutta and Holy Ghost Church, Bangalore, Vicar Provincial, Provincial Consultor, the Prefect of Students in the Theologate, the YCS Director for the whole of Bengal, a Spiritual Director for Catholic Teachers Guild, the Diocesan representative for Consortium for Urban Development of Calcutta, the Director of Nava Spoorti Kendra, Bangalore and presently the Rector of Mt. St. Alphonsus, Bangalore. He also started a Counselling Centre at Holy Ghost Church, Bangalore which has been running successfully for the past sixteen years. And he has been a joyful priest always radiating joy to others through his words and acts and the channel of God’s grace to people through his availability for a good number of missions, retreats, spiritual direction, confessions and pastoral counselling. The Church at large and Redemptorists in particular indeed need to thank God a lot for the gift of Fr. Eric.
