Sad Demise of Rev. Fr. Kenneth Britto, C.Ss.R.
Fr.Kenneth Britto (1933-2013), a Redemptorist Priest, was born in Madras (called ‘Chennai’ today) and completed his college studies in Loyola College, Chennai. He joined the Redemptorists, when Fr. Matthew Hickey, an Irish Redemptorist, was the Vice-Provincial in Bangalore. Later he finished his doctorate in ascetical theology and was a professor of Spiritual theology at Mt. St. Alphonsus in Bangalore. He preached many missions in English and Tamil both in India and elsewhere, being a zealous Redemptorist missionary. As a channel of God’s unconditional love, he was a confessor and a spiritual director to many who were either lay or religious.
He was known for his precision in his words and especially in his preaching. Being known for his systematic approach, he was the Province-Bursar for a number of years. He has been the spiritual director for a good number of Redemptorist seminarians, enabling their growth in Redemptorist Spirituality. And he also has been the Socius for Redemptorist theologians a year before his demise. Due to his gradually failing health, he was hospitalized in St. Philomena’s Hospital, Bangalore. On 24th of June, 2013, at 1.50 p.m, he rested his soul in the arms of God. And his funeral ceremony was on 27th of June, 2013. The Redemptorists will always remember him as a gentle, unassuming and caring confrere.
