Annual Retreat 2018

Body:

Annual Retreat 2018: Province of Bangalore (Ranchi, Jharkhand: India): The Province of Bangalore organized Annual retreat for the year 2018, in two places: Jharkhand and Bangalore. The first retreat took place in Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand State (one of the states in northern India), in a Diocesan campus called Social Development Centre (SDC), from 8th to 13th July. We were 24 retreatans present, including the Provincial Superior and the Vicar, and the rest as it were representing the whole Province of Bangalore or even country: Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand.

The retreat guide was, a well known- international figure, our own confrere - Rev. Fr. Juventius Andrade C.Ss.R., a man with wide experience. With his expertise in the scriptures and experience as the (former) General Consultor (for 13 years), he helped us in the retreat by sharing his faith and spirituality and challenged  us with Conviction and Courage and yet yet with great Compassion. The theme of the retreat was "Abundant Redemption - Abandoned Poor", which is an extract of our sexennial theme, "Witnesses of the Redeemer: In Solidarity for Mission to a wounded world".

We sincerely thank Rev. Fr. Juvy, who happily accepted to preach the retreat to his own brothers, all because of his love for the Congregation. The reteat ended on 13th July with the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Juvy C.Ss.R.

We appreciate and are grateful to you dear Fr. Juvy. God bless you.

Meeting of the General Commission for Partnership in Mission

Body:

(Rome, Italy) – The newly-constituted General Commission for Partnership in Mission met at the offices of the General Curia from July 2-5, 2018. Working closely with Fr. Pedro Lopez, CSsR, Chair of the General Secretariat for Evangelization, and General Consultors Fr. Sebastian Ani Dato, CSsR and Fr. Nicolai Ayouba, CSsR, the members of the commission are: Anne Walsh (Edmonton-Toronto), Chair, Sinay Tovar (Venezuela), Rafael Junquera (Madrid), Fr. Rui Santiago, CSsR (Lisbon), Roksan Latorre (Manila) and Victor Zabre (Burkina-Niger). These members represent the five Conference of the Congregation, and all are members of the Working Group or Commission established in their Conference to advance the fundamental priority of Partnership in and for Mission.

The task set before the commission is two-fold:
* to create a Directory to guide and support Partnership in Mission across the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, and
* to develop a Ratio Formationis for Lay Missionaries of the Most Holy Redeemer and Lay Redemptorists (Redemptorist Associates)

After personal introductions and initial explorations of the forms of Partnership in Mission in each Conference, the Commission members then discussed the structures in place in each Conference to support it and move it forward. The next task was to begin the process of outlining a Directory and a Ratio Formationis. For the next three days, working in plenary and in small groups, they began the process of drafting three chapters of a Directory that will eventually serve the entire Redemptorist Family as a resource and guide for Partnership in Mission. Members were offered a tour of the library and archives by Frs Beco and Lage. Side trips to the sites of Rome were also taken.
The work accomplished was monumental. From the laughter heard in the meeting rooms, in the hallways and at the table, a great sense of camaraderie and joy permeated the process.

Pope's July prayer intention: For priests

Body:

Pope Francis on Tuesday released a video message accompanying his prayer intention for July, which this month is "For priests and their pastoral ministry". In his prayer intention for the month of July 2018, Pope Francis said: "Let us pray together that priests, who experience fatigue and oneliness in their pastoral work, may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their friendship with their brother priests." It has become the custom of Pope Francis to release a video message detailing his prayer intention for each month.

The full text of his intention is below:

The tiredness of priests... Do you know how often I think about it? Priests, with their virtues and defects, work in many different areas. Working on so many active fronts, they cannot remain inactive after a disappointment. At such times, it's good for them to remember that the people love their priests, need them, and trust in them. Let us pray together that priests, who experience fatigue and loneliness in their pastoral work, may find help and comfort in their intimacy with the Lord and in their friendship with their brother priests. The Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network of the Apostleship of Prayer developed "The Pope Video" initiative to assist in the worldwide dissemination of monthly intentions of the Holy Father in relation to the challenges facing humanity.

The Feast of Nithya Sahaya Matha (Mother of Perpetual Help), Tenali

Body:

We the Redemptorists celebrate the feast of Nithya Sahaya Matha (Mother of Perpetual Help) on 2nd of February every year for the convenience of our parishioners who are mostly poor agricultural labourers. However, this year we celebrated the feast on the actual day itself which is on the 27th of June.

Fr. David celebrated the Holy Eucharist and broke the word of God for us. Fr. Vijayanand, the Parish Priest also joined the celebration. About 300 people, young and old were present for the celebration which was celebrated at 6.30 p.m.

It was amazingly spiritual and many people were touched by the decorations. Especially the shrine of Mother of Perpetual Help was adorned with beautiful flowers. After the Holy Mass one of our parishioners arranged a sumptuous breakfast for all the people. It was both, a spiritual celebration and a celebration of oneness among the people of God. Amma (means Mother in Telugu) please intercede for us !

28 June: Feast day of the Ukrainian Martyrs

Body:

On June 27, 2001, Pope John Paul II beatified a group of modern martyrs of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. Among them were four Redemptorists: Bishop Mykolay (Nicholas) Charnetsky (1884-1959), Bishop Vasyl (Basil) Vsevolod Velychkovsky (1903-1973), Father Ivan Ziatyk (1899-1952), and Father Zynoviy (Zenon) Kovalyk (1903-1941).

All of these men endured sufferings and torture inflicted either during World War II or after it, during the era of Soviet control prior to the independence of Ukraine in 1991. Bishop Nicholas Charnetsky and his twenty-four companions represent a glorious era of martyrdom for the Ukrainian Catholic Church, and their stories give great witness to the strength of their Catholic faith.
